From operator at the beginning of the computer age to head of the Customer Success Team \u2013 his journey shows how curiosity, experience and team spirit can shape a company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From magnetic disks to cloud solutions<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When Thomas joined DATA UNIT, hardware still consisted of &#8220;large buckets&#8221; filled with storage disks. Computer science wasn&#8217;t a formal apprenticeship, but rather pioneering work. At DATA UNIT&#8217;s data center, he was able to learn programming directly on the job \u2013 and was enthusiastic about their in-house ERP solution, which allowed for the rapid implementation of customer customizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cThe DATA UNIT was small but very sophisticated in its early days,\u201d Thomas recalls. \u201cYou could achieve a lot, with a direct impact on both the product and the customer. Today, we primarily work with standard processes. The advantage: much more comprehensive and complex processes can be mapped in less time.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Change, growth and milestones<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For over 37 years, Thomas witnessed DATA UNIT&#8217;s transformation from a data center to a systems provider for hardware and software, and finally to a specialized SAP Competence Center. From a small group of developers to an established SAP partner with a clear focus on ERP cloud software \u2013 always with foresight and the courage to embrace change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cThe merger with Itegrity in 2022 gave us further momentum \u2013 both professionally and personally,\u201d he says. \u201cThe combined expertise drives us every day.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Experience meets passion<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thomas is particularly proud of a project with a cigar factory that he oversaw for many years. He digitized its logistics processes step by step \u2013 from manual labor to full automation.&nbsp;<em>&#8220;That was real teamwork and a huge learning step for me \u2013 both technically and personally.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today he is fascinated by how cloud computing and new tools are constantly simplifying processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Advice for young IT talent<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cStay curious and specialize,\u201d advises Thomas. \u201cIT is developing rapidly \u2013 \u200b\u200bbut those who stay on top of things can shape the future.\u201d Balance is also important, however.&nbsp;<em>&#8220;You need energy, but also periods of rest. Work-life balance is not just a buzzword \u2013 it keeps you motivated in the long run.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Team spirit that unites<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Thomas, the DATA UNIT is more than just a workplace:&nbsp;<em>&#8220;We are a close-knit community.
