A glimpse into the future: The national future day at DATA UNIT AG

Yesterday, on National Future Day, DATA UNIT welcomed seven inquisitive children – a cheerful, curious and energetic “sack full of fleas” who gained an exciting insight into the diverse world of computer science.

Developing young talent has a long tradition at DATA UNIT. For over 50 years, the company has trained a large proportion of its employees in-house. Future Day is a fixed and important part of this: a day on which children can playfully discover the world of technology and experience what computer science means in everyday life.

Adventures on SQL Island

The day began with an interactive workshop on **SQL queries** using the learning game *SQL Island*. The children were stranded – at least virtually – on a mysterious island and faced the challenge of finding their way back to the mainland using clever database queries. With great curiosity and surprisingly rapid learning success, they delved into the fundamentals of the data world and discovered just how powerful databases can be.

Pizza break – a chance to catch our breath together

After the initial “aha!” moments and solving the puzzles, a popular treat awaited everyone: pizza for all! This gave the children and staff a chance to chat and share their experiences so far.

Programming like the pros

The afternoon continued with creative and technical activities:

– C# Workshop: The children developed their own small calculator – from code to a working application. A first step into real programming!

– Scratch: With this visual development environment, they could create their own animations and games. There were no limits to their imagination, and the results elicited many amazed reactions.

Farewell with surprises

To conclude the day, all the children received a small thank you gift: a DATA UNIT water bottle and a cinema voucher – a memento of an exciting day full of new impressions.
