Benno Bikes has been producing cargo e-bikes since 2016. These bikes feature large cargo areas and a configurable system of racks. With a maximum load capacity of 180 kilograms and a weight of 27 kilograms, the Benno Bike is a true all-rounder and the original cargo bike in the compact class. European distribution is handled by Benno Bikes Swiss GmbH.
Challenge
The cargo e-bikes are ordered in America, manufactured and assembled in Taiwan. The finished bikes, along with their extensive range of accessories and spare parts, are then distributed within Switzerland and the EU. “The challenge was to map these numerous, complex processes in a single ERP system.” In addition to five countries, managing three currencies, customs clearance, and warehouse operations in Switzerland and Austria presents a significant challenge for Benno Bikes Swiss GmbH.
Solution
The new system had to manage a large amount of data and also be able to automate processes. Benno Bikes Swiss GmbH found the solution in SAP Business One. Samuel Weishaupt, founder and managing owner, explains: “For us, it was important to have a system that could manage everything we needed, was scalable, and could be continuously adapted to our requirements.”
Benno Bikes Swiss GmbH collaborated with SAP partner DATA UNIT AG for the installation of SAP Business One. The new ERP system was installed in record time: from the initial meeting in November 2020 to the go-live in January 2021, only three months elapsed.
Result
“Without the new ERP system, Benno Bikes Swiss GmbH wouldn’t be able to supply Germany from Switzerland,” emphasizes Alain Filli. In other words: “We currently supply 100 specialist retailers in Germany – that would be impossible for our small team with a total of 500% of full-time equivalent positions without the automated processes of SAP Business One.” For example, warehouse management, customs clearance, and order and invoicing are all handled via the ERP system. The processes from order form to delivery note and invoice are fully automated.
Furthermore, there is no need for additional systems, adjustments are easy to implement, and new processes can be integrated.
